The 21st Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade attracted thousands of revelers to the streets of Hong Kong to celebrate the first night of the Year of the Monkey.
13 festive floats representing 10 countries and regions showcased international and local performances.
Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), this year’s themed “Playground of the World – Party of the Year” marks the start of the Chinese New Year.
Cathay Pacific Airways was the title sponsor of the night parade for the 18th consecutive year while China Construction Bank (Asia) was the route sponsor for the second year.
The parade kicked off at the Cultural Center and ended at the corner of Nathan road and Salisbury Road.
Shouts of glee were heard as 11 international performances awed the crowd from Dundu, the Giant of Light from Germany, the thumping sounds of Japanese performers, the dizzying head turning hats of those from the King Sejong Fantasy Performing Art by Korea University to the swift feet of the Tribu Panauyanon of the Philippines – it was a feast for the senses.
